朝香宮鳩彦王妃允子
作品に付された「N.A」のイニシャルから、朝香宮家に降嫁後描かれたものであることが分かる。允子妃は幼少の頃より絵画制作に慣れ親しんできたが、フランス滞在中に事故に遭った鳩彦王を看護するために渡欧した後、彫刻家のブランショより水彩画の指導を受けていたことが、滞欧中の支出を記録した「受領證綴」中の記載より知られる。本作は、滞欧中である1924年の年記が入った《アネモネ》とサインの形状がよく似ていることから、同時期に描かれたものと推測される。
The initials “N.A.” on the work indicates that it was painted after Princess Nobuko’s marriage into the Asaka family. Princess Nobuko had practiced painting since childhood, but after she traveled to Europe to care for Prince Yasuhiko as he recovered from a car accident, records contained in the bound receipts detailing their European expenses show that she received watercolor lessons from the sculptor Ivan-Léon Blanchot. This work is presumed to have been created around that time due to the similarity of the signature with that on Anemones, which is dated 1924, when the princess was in Europe.
