A coffee set consisting of a pot, sugar bowl, two demitasse cups, and a tray. A reddish-brown stamp indicates it was painted at the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory, and the pieces are made of “new porcelain” (a type of hard-paste porcelain developed at Sèvres) fired at a low temperature. The artist, Anne-Marie Fontaine, was a pattern designer and painter. At the invitation of Henri Rapin, then an artistic advisor at Sèvres, she began working on projects for the manufactory in 1920. Although she passed away at the young age of 38, she left behind many designs and painted works, ranging from small ashtrays to decorative panels for train stations.
