1925年にパリで開催された現代装飾美術・産業美術国際博覧会（通称アール・デコ博覧会）のためのポスター。当時ポスターは4人の異なるデザイナーや芸術家に依頼された。本作は、グラフィックデザイナーのシャルル・ルーポが手がけたものである。ルーポらしい太く素早い筆致によって、噴煙をあげる工場が描かれている。工場の煙突から出る煙とは別に、噴き上げられ空に広がる煙は、よく見るとアール・デコ博覧会のアイコンである薔薇の形をしている。まさに、産業および工業技術の発展への期待と憧れ、そして装飾芸術との密接な関係性を示すデザインといえるだろう。

A poster for the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts (commonly known as the Art Deco Exposition) held in Paris in 1925. Four different designers and artists were commissioned to create posters at the time. This work was designed by the graphic designer Charles Loupot. The illustration depicts a factory billowing smoke with Loupot’s characteristic thick, quick brushwork. Another cloud of smoke spreads across the sky apart from the smoke coming out of the factory chimneys, which upon closer inspection is shaped like a rose, the icon of the Art Deco Exposition. This design elegantly captures anticipation and aspiration for the development of industry and industrial technology, as well as their close relationship with the decorative arts.
