蓋付きの大振りの壺であり、表面にかけられた青の釉薬が焼成によって流れ落ちることで、独特の色調や質感の変化が生み出されている。当館では、微妙に釉薬のかけ方が異なる同型の壺を２点所蔵している。本作は、朝香宮邸の主要な部屋の室内装飾を手がけたフランスの装飾美術家、アンリ・ラパンのデザインによるもので、フランスの旧王立窯であるセーヴル製陶所によって製造された。 また、同型の壺は1925年のアール・デコ博覧会の際、「セーヴル製陶所館」の庭園に一対で展示されていたことが確認されている。この庭園の装飾は、当時セーヴル製陶所の芸術顧問を務めていたラパンが、建築家ピエール・パトゥと共に担当していた。

This large vase with a lid features a blue glaze that dripped downward during firing, creating unique variations in tone and texture. The museum collection includes two vases of this type with slightly different glaze applications. This vase was designed by Henri Rapin, the French decorative artist who handled the interior decoration of the main rooms of the Prince Asaka Residence, and was manufactured by the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory, the former French royal kiln. A pair of identical vases was confirmed to have been exhibited in the garden of the Sèvres Pavilion during the 1925 Art Deco Exposition. Rapin, who was then an artistic advisor to Sèvres, was responsible for the garden’s decoration alongside architect Pierre Patout.
