陸軍航空学校の下志津分校は、1921（大正10）年4月、現在の千葉県千葉市に設立された。1924（大正13）年5月には、陸軍航空部本部長の直轄の「下志津陸軍飛行学校」となり、偵察や航空写真の撮影にかかわる全般的な教育を行っていた。 本資料は、1941（昭和16）年に同校が朝香宮邸周辺の上空を撮影した写真である。広大な森林に囲まれた写真中央に白く映っているのが朝香宮邸で、敷地内北端には、倉庫と車庫の一部が見られる。西側には、現存しない日本家屋の侍女室が見られる。南端に見られる9棟の建物は事務官らの官舎で、現在は西洋庭園となっている。

The branch of the Imperial Japanese Army Air School at Shimoshizu Airfield was established in April 1921 in what is now Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture. In May 1924, it became the Shimoshizu Army Aviation School, directly overseen by the Chief of the Army Aviation Department, and conducted comprehensive training for reconnaissance and aerial photography. This aerial photograph was taken by the school in 1941 from above the area of the Prince Asaka Residence. The residence is the white structure visible at the center of the photograph surrounded by a sprawling woodland. The warehouse and garage are partially visible at the north end of the grounds. The Japanese-style building to the west served as quarters for the waiting maids and no longer exists. The nine buildings visible to the south in what is now the European Garden were residences for government officials.
