Guided Tour in English
We are offering a guided tour in English to introduce the highlights of the museum with a focus on the current special exhibition, “Masks: Beauty of the Spirits –Masterpieces from the musée du quai Branly.” This is a fascinating exhibition of rare and precious masks from Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, displayed in the unique setting of an Art Deco residence as well as our new modern galleries. While appreciating the beauty and craftsmanship of these important works from all around the world, we will explore the many ways in which non-European cultures used masks to regulate their societies as well as gain contact with forces that are invisible and omnipresent. Alice Gordenker, arts writer for The Japan Times, will conduct the tour, which is free with regular museum admission and will last approximately an hour. No reservations are necessary; please gather in the great hall on the first floor of the Prince Asaka Residence five minutes before the tour begins.
June 5 (Fri), 2015. 15:00 pm.
