Architects / 1933 / Shirokane: Look at Art Deco Architecture Images

The Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum occupies a building that was constructed in 1933 as the main residence of the Prince Asaka family. Highly acclaimed by experts in Japan and abroad as a fine example of the Art Deco architecture.
To introduce the research and restoration work that has taken place during the three years of closure, the first exhibition after the opening of the renovated building will focus on the architects (designers and engineers) that worked on the Prince Asaka family residence and trace the story leading up to the birth of this building. We will also introduce the original wallpaper as well as furniture normally not on exhibit, in addition to designs by the French interior decorator Henri Rapin and works by the glass designer René Lalique.

・The wallpaper in the former Prince’s Sitting Room (first public display of the replicated original wallpaper)

・Furniture used in the Former Prince Asaka Residence (including eight pieces shown for the first time)

・Videos of interviews with the craftsmen involved in the research and restoration
