Masterpiece houses around Shirokanedai
Following the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 (Taisho 12), there was a growing trend towards moving to the suburbs of Tokyo. Around this time, many private railway companies were developing suburban residential areas. The area around Meguro Station also saw a rise in population following the opening of a private railway line, establishing itself as a quiet residential neighbourhood.
The area around the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum is a residential district known as ‘Shirokanedai’. Three houses built in the early Shōwa period have been relocated to different sites and are now preserved there. We would like to introduce these three houses.
