Descriptions

A statue of a child and a nude woman sitting with one knee raised and a flower garland over her shoulder. The piece is made of biscuit (unglazed) porcelain and bears the artist’s signature alongside the kiln mark of the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory, the former French royal kiln. The artist, Joseph Cormier, worked as a sculptor, engraver, and silversmith, creating a wide variety of Art Nouveau works, ranging from jewelry, sculpture, and ceramics. In the 1920s, he focused on smaller sculptures and became known for producing neoclassical figures, often in bronze or ivory.
