Descriptions

The International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts (commonly known as the Art Deco Exposition) was held in Paris in 1925 to showcase the decorative arts, with the goal of demonstrating France’s national strength following World War I. Including the host country France, 22 countries participated in the exhibition, which recorded a total of 16 million visitors over its approximately six-month period. This photo collection documents the interior decoration of the expo pavilions, where participating foreign countries and regions displayed characteristic architectural styles. The three-volume set was edited by decorative artist Maurice Dufrène, who also led the workshop within the venerable department store Galeries Lafayette. It includes photo plates of interiors along with the names of the decorative artists responsible for each pavilion’s decoration, making it a valuable source for understanding the trends in interior decoration at the time.
