A fashion magazine founded in 1867 in New York by the publisher Harper & Brothers (now HarperCollins). It is the oldest surviving fashion magazine. The name, originally Harper’s BAZAR but spelled with two “A”s since 1929, is derived from the Persian word bazaar. The museum holds 16 issues published in the 1930s. The covers of Harper’s BAZAAR during this era were frequently designed by the artist and designer Romain de Tirtoff (known by the pseudonym Erté) and the graphic designer Adolphe Jean-Marie Mouron, whose psuedonym was Cassandre.
